Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how TAPTENNIS, LLC (“Cloze”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use the Cloze website and service (the “Service”). Cloze is a service provided by TAPTENNIS, LLC.

1. Who we are

The data controller is TAPTENNIS, LLC. If you have any questions about this notice or your personal data, contact us at cloze@taptennis.app.

2. Personal data we collect

• Account data: email address, password (hashed), display name, and optional profile information.
• Content you create: quizzes, passages, items, and practice data you submit to the Service.
• Usage and telemetry: pages viewed, features used, view counts, streaks, stats, device and browser identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from IP.
• Support communications: messages you send us and our responses.
• Cookies and similar technologies: essential cookies for authentication and preferences (e.g. theme, session identifier for view de-duplication), and, when enabled as described in section 9, advertising cookies and identifiers used by Google and its advertising partners.

Payment data (card details, billing address, tax information) is collected directly by our payment provider, Paddle, and is not stored by us. See “Data sharing” below.

3. Purposes and legal bases

• Provide the Service — create your account, store your quizzes, run practice sessions. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
• Security and fraud prevention — detect abuse, rate-limit requests, secure accounts. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
• Service improvement and analytics — understand how the Service is used and improve it. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
• Customer support — respond to your inquiries. Legal basis: legitimate interests / contract.
• Legal compliance — comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests. Legal basis: legal obligation.
• Marketing communications (only if you opt in) — send product updates. Legal basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Advertising and ad measurement — support the free Service with ads, personalize ads where permitted, and measure our advertising campaigns. Legal basis: consent where required by law; otherwise legitimate interests, subject to your choices described in section 9.

4. Data sharing

We share personal data with the following categories of recipients:

• Merchant of Record — Paddle.com Market Limited: Paddle is our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle handles payments, subscription management, tax compliance, invoicing, refunds, and related customer service for purchases.
• Service providers / subprocessors: cloud hosting and database providers, authentication providers, analytics, and customer support tooling, each acting under our instructions.
• Advertising providers: when Google advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may receive cookie identifiers, IP address, browser and device information, and information about visits and ad interactions. They may use this information to deliver, personalize, and measure ads under their own privacy policies, rather than solely under our instructions. See section 9 for details and opt-out choices.
• Professional advisers: legal, accounting, and similar advisers when necessary.
• Authorities: where required by law, court order, or to protect rights, property, or safety.

5. International transfers

Some recipients may be located outside your country, including in the United States and the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

6. Data retention

We retain account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes. Backup copies may persist for a limited additional period before being overwritten.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: access your personal data; have it corrected or deleted; restrict or object to its processing; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent at any time; and lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact cloze@taptennis.app. We aim to respond within one month.

8. Security

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, hashed passwords, and least-privilege access for staff and subprocessors. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to continually improve our safeguards.

9. Cookies, Google AdSense, and advertising choices

Essential cookies and local storage

We use strictly necessary cookies and local storage entries to keep you signed in, store your theme preference, remember your cookie choice, and de-duplicate view counts. These support the Service and are separate from optional advertising cookies.

Google AdSense and personalized ads

We may display ads through Google AdSense when it is enabled. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Cloze or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to Cloze and/or other sites on the Internet. Personalized ads may reflect inferred interests and prior activity; non-personalized ads are based on context, such as the page you are viewing, rather than your past activity.

Advertising technologies may collect IP address, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, and ad views or clicks for ad delivery, measurement, frequency capping, and fraud prevention. Non-personalized ads may still use cookies for these purposes; opting out of personalization is not the same as declining advertising cookies on Cloze. Our own in-house ads do not require advertising cookies.

Cloze currently displays AdSense ads only after you select Accept on our cookie banner. Selecting Decline prevents Cloze from loading AdSense ad placements. Accept allows Google advertising cookies and ad personalization, subject to your Google settings and applicable requirements.

Google Ads conversion measurement

Separately from AdSense, we use the Google Ads tag to measure whether visitors who arrive from our Google ads create an account, and to help Google optimize those ads. It may set advertising cookies and share visit and conversion data with Google. In the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada, this only happens after you select Accept; elsewhere it may run unless you select Decline. If we cannot determine your region, we wait for Accept.

How to manage your choices

• Cloze cookie consent: choose Accept or Decline on the cookie banner. To change a saved choice, clear Cloze's cookies and site storage using your browser's privacy settings, then reload Cloze and choose again. Clearing site storage may sign you out and reset preferences. Decline stops future AdSense placements and Google Ads tracking by Cloze; it does not itself delete cookies previously set by Google or other providers.
• Google personalized ads: opt out of personalized advertising or adjust your preferences in Google My Ad Center. Google also provides controls for ads on partner sites through its partner ad settings. These choices do not necessarily remove all ads.
• Other advertising vendors: visit aboutads.info/choices to opt out of personalized advertising from participating providers. Availability and scope depend on the provider, your region, and your browser or device.
• Browser controls: your browser can block or delete cookies, including third-party cookies. Blocking essential storage may affect sign-in and other site features. Some opt-outs are browser- or device-specific and may need to be repeated after clearing cookies or switching devices.

We may update this notice from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.
